Samoset Council Highest Honors

Samoset Council is proud to recognize three exceptional volunteers whose dedication and service exemplify the spirit of Scouting.

⭐ 2026 Silver Beaver Recipients: Gregg Gokey and Lisa Gauerke

The Silver Beaver Award is a national distinguished service award, given to registered Scouters who have provided noteworthy and exceptional service that directly benefits youth at the council level.
It
is the highest honor a Council can bestow upon a volunteer.

⭐ Torch of Gold Award Recipient: Ruth Schilling
The Torch of Gold Award is a distinguished Council‑level recognition honoring adults who provide exceptional leadership and service to Scouts with disabilities. Each council may present only one award per year, underscoring the significance of Ruth’s outstanding commitment and inclusive support.

Please join us in congratulating Gregg, Lisa, and Ruth for their remarkable contributions and for strengthening Scouting across Samoset Council.

Hazardous Weather Training

As spring and the camping season approach, it’s important to understand weather risks. You don’t want to be caught outdoors in dangerous conditions. To help leaders stay prepared, Scouting America requires Hazardous Weather Training every two years. All direct-contact leaders (Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Den Leaders, and their assistants) must complete the online course to be considered trained. The course takes about 30–45 minutes and covers risks like lightning, heat, and cold. Stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.

To take the training, go to My.Scouting.org and log in or create an account.
